Who Are We?

Eastern Flair is a totally Australian company which was first established in 1988 as a retail store in the heart of Newtown, a busy and vibrant shopping precinct in an inner suburb of Sydney, NSW, Australia.

When we started back in 1988, we specialised in importing interesting quality products from Thailand so our customers could give some “Eastern Flair” to their home decoration. Over the following years, we have added a larger range of products from destinations such as Indonesia, India, Africa. We have Celtic jewellery from England, furniture from Indonesia and China.

Our product selection includes homewares and home furnishings such as throws and rugs, with a large selections of cushions. We specialise in “one off” pieces of jewellery featuring semi precious stones, crystal and silver. Our products include an interesting range of Crystals for those of you who value the beauty and special properties of natural crystals.

At Eastern Flair, our aim is to bring you homewares with style, quality and elegance at affordable prices. We have a long reputation in retail for our efforts to make customers happy.

Our Outlet Store and Showroom is in Newtown, Sydney, where you can inspect and purchase our products.

We are now proudly online to give you a sample of the very large range of products we have in our store. Many items are one off and unique. They are not mass produced and susequently our stock changes frequently. We invite you to visit our store often and browse amongst the current stock we have on display.

A mix between a gift shop, a $2 shop, an oriental shop and a furniture store

A mix between a gift shop, a $2 shop, an oriental shop and a furniture store, this place has a little bit of everything.
Have a bit of a venture in if you’re passing by, but I’m not entirely sure what purpose would bring you to this store specifically, although they do have a lot of things that one may need at odd intervals of time, something obscure, like Asian beads or something.
As long as you know the store intimately enough to know that they have what you need, you will find what you’re looking for. If not, this store may not daw your attention. Halloween costumes for example, or cheap jewellery. The place feels a bit like a treasure hunt, rather than purpose built.

Newtown is one of my favourite parts of Sydney and I must have walked past Eastern Flair a gazillion times, yet today was the first time I went inside and I now I am kicking myself for not checking it out sooner.
I needed to buy a gift for a friend with eclectic taste and Eastern Flair solved my dilemma. It is the most enormous shop with an unbelievable range of stock. I could spend hours in there.
Their stock range is far beyond eastern in style. The eastern stuff is great with a wide range of Buddhas, elephants, linens, clothes, furniture, an enormous selection of jewellery. They also have other cool stuff as funky picture frames, beautiful bird- cages, masks, lamps and seriously cool framed signs and pictures, apart from the cute meditating wooden frog I bought my friend, I bought myself a framed picture of an old fashioned telephone booth (you have to see it).

Deceptive from the outside, this shop is absolutely huge and spans two levels. It has all sorts of homewares, jewellery, clothes, bags, candles, knick knacks, decorations and furniture. Okay, that brief list doesn’t even come close to the full array of items you can buy here… It is a great place to buy a gift, especially when you don’t have anything in mind. A little time browsing in here and you will find something. It can get a little crowded, especially around Christmas time.
I have bought so many gifts here, from lava lamps to candle holders, picture frames, ornaments and jewellery. There is also is an impressive tagine collection, novelty masks, gift cards and cooking equipment. The staff are friendly and wrap items in plain tissue paper.

It is just incredibly amazing what great things you might be able to find at Eastern Flair. A trendy, bohemian and chic home wares store on King Street in Newtown. This store has been around for ages, and bucking the trend this should most definitely continue. Bedding and lounges (you might get the odd futon from Marrickville) and everything else in between, large or small. Great service and always a joy to browse through. Don’t know what else to say about this establishment.

The smell of scented candles and incense wafts over you

The smell of scented candles and incense wafts over you as you make your way through the crowded maze of trinkets that make up Eastern Flair.
The shop is an eclectic mix of cooking equipment, Eastern-inspired homewares, cushions, teapots, furniture, Halloween costumes (all year round), tatami screens and cheap womens accessories. Upstairs is the “50% off” section, which mainly consists of more Eastern-inspired furniture, particularly cabinets, mirrors, draws, lamps and hat-stands.
The teapot sets here are my favourite item and for an entire year my friends could count on receiving an Eastern Flair teapot set Japanese style teapots with 2 – 4 cups) for any given occasion. Their Moroccan tea glasses are beautiful and affordable too, as are their ornate selection of tajines.
Clothes make up only a small section of the store and are not the reason most people come here. They do sell a good range of fisherman pants though, which seem to be an ‘at-home-essential’ wardrobe item and they have beautiful scarves with pretty good deals (one for $10, two for $15). The jewellery is mostly tacky/gothic inspired, but they do have the one thing that sells it for me – Lava Lamps. Sold.
